Garfield County, MT

Garfield County (4,848 sq miles) is located in eastern Montana and sits atop the Bakken-Lodgepole Total Petroleum System (TPS) and the Heath Shale oil play.

Central Montana Resources has invested $75-million drilling wells in Garfield, Petroleum and Rosebud Counties, prospective for the Heath, but isn't currently an active producer in the area. The highest recorded annual oil production in the county was in 1986 at 160,260 bbls. Today, the county produces approximately 10,000 - 11,000 bbls of oil annually.

The county seat and only incorporated city of Garfield County is the city of Jordan. County services of interest to oil and gas lease owners include the Garfield County Appraisal District (tax collector) office and the Garfield County Clerk (property records) office.
