Slope County, ND and the Bakken Shale Play
Slope County (1,219 sq. miles) is located in North Dakota and sits atop the Bakken and Three Forks formations. It is one of 16 active oil & gas producing counties in our North Dakota coverage area, but is outside the core area for production.
The county didn't have any measurable production until the mid 1960's, and remained relatively flat until the Bakken boom. In April, 2006, Slope's monthly total oil production peaked at 59,778 bbls (1,992 b/d). Since then, production in the county has leveled off, and is concentrated in counties further north.
The largest city in Slope County is Marmarth. The only other incorporated city in Slope County is Amidon, which serves as the county seat. County services of interest to oil and gas lease owners include the Slope County Appraisal District (tax collector) office and the Slope County Clerk (property records) office.
