Bakken Shale Rig Count Stable as Oil and Gas Prices Surge

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count was unchanged this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 45 rigs running through our coverage area by Friday midday.

In recent industry news, oil and gas prices are continuing to rise and crude oil production set another high this week.

  • Crude Oil: $66.24 (+$2.87)
  • Natural Gas: $3.57 (+$.38)
  • Crude Production: 9.878 million bpd (up from 9.750 million bpd)

A total of 947 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week. 188 rigs were targeting natural gas (-1) and 759 were targeting oil (+12) in the U.S. The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.)  44 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in N.D.

45 rigs targeted oil in the Bakken this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices at $66.24 on Friday afternoon. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with commodity futures trading at $3.57/mmbtu by midday.

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count slipped backwards this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 45 rigs running through our coverage area by Friday midday.

A total of 936 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week. 189 rigs were targeting natural gas (+2) and 747 were targeting oil (-5) in the U.S. The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 44 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil & Gas Rigs

45 rigs targeted oil in the Bakken this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices at $63.37 on Friday afternoon. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with commodity futures trading at $3.19/mmbtu by midday.

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count didn't move this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 46 rigs running through our coverage area by Friday midday.

A total of 939 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week. 187 rigs were targeting natural gas (+5) and 752 were targeting oil (+10) in the U.S.. The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.)  45 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

46 rigs targeted oil in the Bakken this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices at $64.30 on Friday afternoon. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with commodity futures trading at $3.20/mmbtu by midday.

Bakken Shale Gains 13 Total Rigs in 2017

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count started the new year with 46 rigs running through our coverage area by Friday midday. This represents a net gain of 13 rigs over the course of 2017. 

A total of 924 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week. 182 rigs were targeting natural gas and 742 were targeting oil in the U.S. The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 45 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Shale Rig Count Increases in Time for Christmas

Just in time for Christmas, Bakken Shale operators brought more rigs on line.

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count increased for the second week in a row this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 49 rigs running through our coverage area by Friday midday. 

In recent Bakken Shale news, a mineral rights dispute is delaying oil and gas development around Lake Sakakawea.

Mineral Rights in Bakken Under Question

A total of 931 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week, one more than last week. 184 rigs were targeting natural gas (+1) and 747 were targeting oil in the U.S. (+0). The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 48 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

49 rigs targeted oil in the Bakken this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices at $58.47 on Friday afternoon. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with commodity futures trading at $2.67/mmbtu by midday.
