Bakken Shale Rig Count Stalls

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count has stalled for the past three weeks, with Baker Hughes reporting 37 rigs running across our coverage area by midday Friday.

A total of 740 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week, a gain of 12 over last week. 149 rigs targeted natural gas (4 more than the previous week) and 591 were targeting oil in the U.S. (eight more than the previous week). The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 36 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil & Gas Rigs

Bakken oil rigs were at 37 this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices increasing to $53.86 on Friday afternoon. Prices for WTI-Brent dipped per barrel to $56.70. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with futures trading at $3.03/mmbtu by midday.

Bakken Shale Rig Count Isn't Keeping Up

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count remained flat this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 37 rigs running across our coverage area by midday Friday.

Rig counts across the country are slowly climbing as conditions in the oil and gas industry continues to improve. But the Bakken doesn't seem to be keeping up with the growth of other shale plays. The Eagle Ford Shale rig count is at 68 this week, a 50% increase in the last six months.

A total of 728 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week, a gain of 27 over last week. 145 rigs targeted natural gas (the same as the previous week) and 583 were targeting oil in the U.S. (27 more than the previous week). The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 36 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil & Gas Rigs

Bakken oil rigs were at 37 this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices increasing to $53.80 on Friday afternoon. Prices for WTI-Brent also increased to per barrel of $56.75. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with futures trading at $3.06/mmbtu by midday.

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count continued its climb this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 37 rigs running across our coverage area by midday Friday.

A total of 701 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week, an increase of eight over last week. 145 rigs targeted natural gas (three more than the previous week) and 555 were targeting oil in the U.S. (five more than the previous week). The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.) 36 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil & Gas Rigs

Bakken oil rigs were at 37 this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices dipping to $53.17 on Friday afternoon. Prices for WTI-Brent increased to per barrel of $55.52. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with futures trading at $3.39/mmbtu by midday.

Bakken Shale Region Gains Rigs

The Bakken-Three Forks rig count gained three this week, with Baker Hughes reporting 35 rigs running across our coverage area by midday Friday.

In recent Bakken news, Hess Corporation has announced it will increase E&P spending for 2017, including adding more Bakken rigs.

A total of 693 oil and gas rigs were running across the United States this week, 35 over last week. 142 rigs targeted natural gas (six more than the previous week) and 551 were targeting oil in the U.S. (29 more than the previous week). The remainder were drilling service wells (e.g. disposal wells, injection wells, etc.)  35 of the rigs active in the U.S. were running in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil & Gas Rigs

Bakken oil rigs were at 35 this week with Bloomberg reporting WTI oil prices increasing slightly to $53.22 on Friday afternoon. Prices for WTI-Brent dipped per barrel to $55.49. The Bakken has zero natural active gas rig in the area this week with futures trading at $3.20/mmbtu by midday.
